Friday night's Biergarten menu:
2024 January/February/March Winter Pause - Friday night dinners will resume March 15, 2024.
What to expect when you come to dinner at the German-American Club:
Please note - while we are open to all - members or not, we are not a full-scale restaurant. We are open most Fridays from 5 - 10 pm with meals being available 5 - 6:45 pm. The bar, tap room and musical entertainment are available to all without an admission fee. Holiday Fridays or adjacent days (July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas. Special workdays due to large events) we typically are not open. Please check the monthly schedule here or weekly postings on Facebook.
Meals are available by reservation only, eat-in or take out. Please reserve by calling (518) 573-8389 starting Wednesday morning of each week. The last reservation will be accepted no later than 12 noon Friday unless sold out. Our meals use many fresh and unique ingredients requiring us to plan and purchase ahead. Last-minute reservations are typically not possible. While we do our best to anticipate demand, occasionally meals sell out. When in doubt, reserve early.
Usually we offer one "featured meal" on a rotating basis weekly - Sauerbraten, Beef Rouladen, Kassler Rippchen, Schnitzels, etc. A Two Wurst Platter with Potato Salad, Sauerkraut is most always available also. Occasionally we'll have a second Featured meal. Meals cost $15 or $20 depending on the main item. A salad and dessert accompany each meal. Tax and tip are included in the price.
PLEASE NOTE - we accept cash or check. Credit Cards are not accepted at this time. The closest ATM is about 5 blocks away.
Since the Covid Crisis of 2020, when serving "to go" meals saved the Club, we have continued to pack each meal reservation as a "to-go." Recyclable or reusable containers are used, plastic utensils are provided, and meal reservations are accepted in 15 minute "slots" starting at 5 pm, 5:15, 5:30, etc. The last meal reservation is accepted for 6:45 pm. Some guests prefer to bring their own silverware for eating. This is fine.
Special request meals - children's (typically chicken fingers and fries) are accepted with ample notice. Same with vegetarian meals. Our kitchen staff will strive to produce a suitable meal for you based on our existing food supplies. Families with very young children may, of course, bring special items for their child.
Individual meals may be eaten in the main dining room where tables of 8 can be reserved, or the more intimate tap room adjacent to the bar. Meals may also be eaten at the bar. Solo diners are more than welcome and will always be introduced (or re-introduced) to German customs, cuisine and gemütlichkeit (feeling of coziness.)
Live musical entertainment is presented weekly with traditional and popular tunes. Our bar with German beers, wines and spirits is open to all 5 pm to approximately 10 pm. We offer a rotating variety of award winning and notable German beers on tap. A 4 flavor "flight of beer" is available to taste several varieties.
Finally, we are a volunteer-driven Club. All positions, work and services are performed by our volunteers. We strive to produce and offer "what Oma (grandma) used to make." While we do our best, occasionally our dishes are rustic, service a bit hurried, and our menu basic comfort food popular for hundreds of years in Central Europe. But we invite you to join us for one of the last outposts of German heritage in New York's Capital District area. Hope to see you soon!
